Aquatic Supplies & Fertilizer: Spawning Mat Material

A rubberized, bound, hair-and-vegetable-fiber matting material used extensively by the breeders of shiners, gold fish, similar shore spawnings, and egg-scattering fish species. Allows for the artificial duplication of natural pond shorelines; helps stimulate the female egg-laying process and allows fertilized eggs to penetrate the mat surface, giving better egg protection and insuring potential increased yields. After a 3-season testing and application period, it has proven to be more durable, more economical to use, more convenient to install in spawning ponds, and easier to transport from spawning ponds to hatching ponds than Spanish moss. It has also been found to be less expensive to purchase than plastic fiber bristle.

The installation process for the matting is similar to that of Spanish moss in that a wire mesh may be used as a backing. If desired, mats can also be installed by staking cut-to-size mats to the pond banks, or rolls can be unrolled and staked along pond shorelines.

Each roll weighs approx. 14-15 lbs
